Axes in this category are typically used when working with logs for building construction.
In Sweden the Carpenter's Axe pattern is known as Hjartum, a pattern available from both Gransfors Bruk and Hultafors.
The flattish, equal bevels are quite long with distinct shoulders, the cutting edge is straight so can be used in a pushing fashion and used like a chisel. The bit is bearded so it can be used choked-up for stability and precision. The poll is normally hardened for hammering nails. The handle is straight for flexibility.
Broad axes from Gransfors come in a variety of grinds and handle options, each model does a particular job very well. We stock three of the most popular models but others can be sourced as a special order.
