Product Reviews

I have been using the Merlin Axe for a little while now and it feels as though each time I use it, it feels more and more familiar. The level of craftspersonship is extremely high and the axe is capable of tackling all of the tasks of modern green wood working. From splitting the initial log to refining a technical cup blank, I need not put the tool down. The head is nice and weighty, making ease of tough materials if needed. Not only is the forging sublime, but the edge profile, handle and the sheath are equally just as well considered. A great product that I thoroughly recommend that I will be able to eventually pass on to another generation. Bravo

I finally had the chance to test out my Merlin Carving Axe recently and it was a real pleasure to work with. Well balanced, exceptional craftmanship and it made carving green wood so easy. I am looking forward to creating many family heirlooms for the kitchen using wind fallen wood with this beauty. Thank you for all the love and hard work that went into making it and getting it to me in great shape.

Carving axes often feel different in use due to subtle changes in weight, handle and bevel types. This axe has just the right amount of weight and in a placement suitable for more effective waste removal on larger items without having to lift the axe high or use great force. Finer work is also possible by holding closer to the head in the well shaped notch. The flat bevel and grind angle engage very nicely into the wood, with the edge retention due to the steel and maker being exceptional. The finish of the whole product including the beautiful and well fitting sheath is to a really high standard.
