The
XB-100 Horizontal Base allows you to sharpen your tools with the grinding wheel rotating away from the edge (edge trailing) instead of into the edge (edge leading). This is a great advantage when sharpening woodturning gouges using the SVD-186 R Gouge Jig, for example. That's because sharpening edge leading with the SVD-186 R Gouge Jig risks causing the blade to catch on the grinding wheel.
The XB-100 Horizontal Base also gives you the ability to hone your tools using the universal support and jigs, as you can hone edge trailing. This allows you to set the jig for maximum precision when honing.
The XB-100 Horizontal Base was supplied as standard on all S-2000 and S-1200 machines after 8 August 2001. If you have an older machine, you can upgrade it with a horizontal base.
