The Svante Djarv Drawknife 270mm is a handcrafted medium/ large drawknife. Hand-forged and versatile, it promises impeccable control across varied tasks. Accompanied with a Woodsmith leather sheath, this drawknife showcases a blend of function and Swedish design.
While the cutting edge remains straight, the blade carries a subtle curve. Its cranked-down handles permit usage both bevel up and bevel down. For standard greenwood tasks, such as billet rounding, the bevel-down approach, combined with the blade's gentle curve, expedites the process. For tasks like flattening the base of bowls, a bevel-up approach is recommended. Furthermore, it's adept at bark peeling for small to medium-sized logs.
Specifications:
Blade: 4mm thick, 31mm (1 1/4") deep, crafted from high-carbon Swedish tool steel.
Weight: 440 grams, offering a comfortable grip without feeling cumbersome.
Cutting Edge: 270mm (10 1/2") in length.
Overall Length: 430mm (17").
Handles: Traditionally shaped, smooth, made from southern Swedish elm, measuring 115mm (4 1/2").
Maintenance: Sharpening with diamond flat stones or canoe stones is recommended. For honing the bevel's inside, use Round Honing Leather.
Sheath: Crafted from dense black split leather, secured with two poppers.
It's the ultimate choice for those who value high-quality, enduring tools that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also ergonomic.
About the Maker - Svante Djarv Hantverk AB:
Svante Djarv Hantverk is a family business based in Avesta, Sweden, that specialises in creating hand-forged wood carving tools. Drawing inspiration from the Swedish metal-working tradition, they've built a broad range of tools, often in collaboration with experienced woodsmiths and craftspeople. Each year, they produce about 4,000 tools and knives, ranging from carving knives to axes, and they also have a unique tool line for children. Every tool is delivered ready for use, crafted from high-quality steel and complemented with handles made from Swedish hardwoods like elm and ash. Woodsmith has had a long-standing relationship with Svante and Elsa Djarv for over a decade, and we're proud to be the UK's largest stockist of their tools.
