Silky Saws
Silky Gomtaro Saw

The Silky Gomtaro is a robust straight-blade pruning saw designed for fast, efficient cutting in green wood. With its comfortable pistol-grip handle and slim blade profile, it’s well suited to pruning, woodland work, and general use where a reliable pull-saw is needed.
This version features 8 teeth per 30 mm, giving a good balance between cutting speed and control. It’s ideal for pruning branches and small limbs where a clean, efficient cut is required without sacrificing too much speed.
The blade is impulse hardened and chrome plated, helping it stay sharp for longer while resisting rust and resin build-up. Like all Silky saws, it cuts on the pull stroke, producing a fast, smooth cut with minimal effort.
The Gomtaro comes with a durable polypropylene sheath with integrated roller guides, allowing the saw to slide in and out easily while keeping the blade secure when not in use.
- 8 teeth per 30 mm tooth configuration for balanced pruning performance
- Impulse-hardened teeth for long edge life
1.4 mm kerf for efficient cutting
Hard chrome-plated blade for durability and rust resistance
Comfortable rubber pistol grip with excellent control
Polypropylene sheath with roller guides for smooth insertion and removal
Available in blade lengths: 210mm, 240mm, 270mm and 300 mm (330mm is now sadly discontinued)
Replacement blades available
Made in Japan
The 8 tpi per 30 mm version of the Gomtaro is a great configuration for general pruning, coppicing, crosscutting smaller diameter billets.
However, there are alternative options in the Gomtaro range available:
- The Fine tooth Gomtaro offers a higher tooth count (13 per 30mm) for cleaner, more precise cuts, particularly useful on harder or more seasoned material or when a neater finish is desired.
- The Pro Sentei Gomtaro is a dual purpose pruning saw with both fine and coarse teeth on the same blade. The coarse teeth (8 teeth per 30mm) run down the length of the blade from the handle before changing to a finer teeth ratio of 14 teeth per 30mm towards the tip of the blade. This versatile saw can easily be used to cut both large and small branches and also produce an extra smooth finish when required.
