Ray Iles Drawknife MIKE ABBOTT PATTERN is a medium size drawknife suited to most general greenwoodworking duties.
Identical to the Ray Iles Drawknife 8 1/2" except the handles have been cranked slightly down to permit using it bevel-up or bevel-down.
Typically used to prepare billets for the pole lathe or shaving components down for riven gates.
Normally used with a shavehorse or other holding device.
Good control is possible with this drawknife using it bevel-up or bevel-down. The handles are cranked slightly out for extra clearance.
We like this one very much and use them on our greenwoodworking courses.
Edge length 220mm (8 1/2"), made from 01 high carbon tool steel. The lightly oiled beech handles are 100mm (4") long with brass ferrules, these build up a very pleasing patina with use.
The bevel is ground to about 30 degrees and slightly hollow ground therefore will need a final hone before use. This is something you can do yourself with a fine grit stone but if you want us to do it for you select the ‘WORKSHOP SERVICE - Honing’ option above.
Optional sheaths are available, either in thick leather or our superb wooden sheaths for this drawknife. Specially made by WOODSMITH.
Ray Iles Drawknife MIKE ABBOTT PATTERN is made in the UK by one of the countries most respected tool makers.
