The Kvillinge Splitting Axe is the new and updated splitting axe from Hultafors. A robust and well-balanced axe, designed for medium to large logs. The redefined wedge shape and added weight provide more driving force through the wood, a notable improvement from the good quality but very thin profile of the Hult Splitting Axe. The edge is very gently curved to reduce bounce, while also biting into the wood and holding just enough to help turn logs, without getting stuck. While the added weight allows for deeper penetration into the wood, extra care has been taken to ensure the axe never feels heavy in hand. The handle is slightly curved and crafted to combine the perfect balance, control and strength in the swing.
Its design draws inspiration from classic Swedish splitting axes. The axe is hand forged and made from quality steel in the forge at Hults Bruk and Hultafors offers a full lifetime warranty on the axe head (upon registration). Maintain it well and Kvillinge will be a trusted companion for years to come.

Got the Kvillinge after a lot of study to break up my winter 25-26 windfall/rounds, which included a lot of fresh birds-eye ash. It's Easter April 2026 and I've got maybe 12 hours with this now.or waist high with a 8ft Holzhausen. I'd watched Ben Scott and Urban Lumberjack on YouTube, and although I'd have liked a Thornwood/Northman high end splitter sense prevailed. A Maul is a last resort and I have a £30 glass handle just in case. Kvillinge works a treat. I'd considered this or a U32 Fiskars but the glass handle shock in Fisakars put me off. As mentioned a lot of my wood is quite knotty but you can get a powered accurate swing and it may need 5-6 swings to get a cheek off unless its knot free in which case it'll cleave the wood easily.
In summary, light enough for longish splitting sessions, strong enough to handle some seriously gnarly knots with brute force and sharp enough to cleave clean when needed. Satisfyingly pleased.
