The Gränsfors Bruk Small Straight Adze is a new release from Gränsfors Bruk for 2026. Designed for controlled hewing and finishing work, it is a precise and well-balanced tool for traditional timber framing and log building.
Typically used for hewing and dressing beams, the straight cutting edge produces flat, even surfaces, making it ideal for refining timber after rough shaping. The short handle offers increased control and accuracy, particularly when working at bench height or in a low stance, where precision is more important than outright material removal.
In use, the Small Straight Adze excels at flattening and truing faces, cleaning up reference surfaces, refining shoulders and rebates, and removing tool marks left by axes or larger adzes. Compared to longer-handled adzes, the reduced swing arc allows for shorter, more deliberate strokes, helping minimise fatigue and avoid over-cutting when working close to layout lines.
The adze is available in two cutting widths - 56 mm and 80 mm - allowing the user to choose between finer control or slightly faster surface coverage.
