Focused on traditional folding spoons of Brittany, NW France
Jane Mickelborough has been carving all her life, and since 2011 has specialised in greenwood spoons. She’s particularly drawn to the subtle, sculptural forms of traditional Breton folding spoons – once used at weddings and festivals, when guests brought their own spoon and knife.
Alongside her carving, Jane researches and teaches widely – from Spoonfest in the UK and Täljfest in Sweden, to Greenwood Fest in the USA. She also runs a green woodworking festival in Brittany with her husband, Peter. In 2017 she was awarded a Willie Sundqvist and Bill Coperthwaite Slöjd Fellowship for her work on Breton spoons.
