Hans Karlsson CARVING GOUGE 150-30 STRAIGHT is a rarely available tool.
Made by renowned Swedish wood working tool makers Hans Karlsson Klensmide AB.
The broad edge and very shallow sweep makes this a great finishing gouge, typically used on the final stages of carving a bowl to reduce tool marks.
Hans Karlsson has his own reference system to describe the sweep (curvature) of a tools edge, in this case 150 is the curve of a circle designated by the radius measured in millimetres.
30 (1 3/16") is the length of the cutting edge in mm from corner to corner.
The blade is made from high quality ball bearing steel (SS2258) so will take and hold a great edge.
Hardened to 60 - 62 Rockwell.
Ground to a low 20 degrees with a flat bevel.
Total length 255mm (10") including a 140mm (5 1/2") handle and brass ferrule.
The lightly oiled handle is made from Swedish elm and very comfortable in the hand.
Hans Karlsson CARVING GOUGE 150-30 STRAIGHTÂ is designed for pushing only, not striking with a mallet.
